VHS Tanagers defeat Parkston Trojans 75-55 In an excellent team effort, the Vermillion Tanagers overpowered the Parkston High School Trojans 75-55 in boys basketball Feb. 13 at home. The Tanagers shot 54 percent from the field in the contest.

Beau Blouin scored 28 points (21 in the first half), 11 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.

"Beau demonstrated the necessity of senior leadership," said VHS Coach Troy Terronez. "He came out knowing this game was his, and that's how he played."

The Tanagers jumped ahead 15-11 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 35-27 at halftime, and then led 55-37 after the third quarter.

"It was fun to watch these boys play," said Coach Terronez. "They were talking to each other, and everyone was playing as hard as possible. It's easy to play a good game when you're having fun."

VHS improved its season mark to 7-8, while Parkston varsity fell to 9-8.

VHS hit 3 of 9 three-point attempts and sank 18 of 25 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 27 of 50 from the field, while Parkston varsity was 20 of 58 from the field. Parkston varsity made 5 of 15 three-point attempts and connected on 10 of 21 free throw tries.

The Tanagers had some excellent individual efforts in the win.

"Doug Hanson had 16 points, 8 assists and 2 steals," Coach Terronez said. "Bo Nelson scored 10 points and had 5 rebounds. Doug added another dimension to his game, which made him much more difficult to guard. He's doing a great job recognizing the open man when others double him."
