VHS varsity collars 'Dogs in Madison The Vermillion Tanagers edged the Madison High School Bulldogs 65-62 in boys basketball Feb. 18 at Madison as the winners led after each quarter.
Doug Hanson scored 26 points along with 14 rebounds. Beau Blouin scored 13 points.
The Tanagers led 9-8 after the first quarter, led 28-20 at halftime, and then led 46-38 going into the final period.
VHS held onto the win from the free throw line, making 16 of 22 charity tosses to 7 of 10 for MHS.
In the final quarter, Nick Hovden went 3 for 4 and Beau Blouin 4 for 4 in the last 2 minutes to maintain a comfortable margin which counteracted a flurry of 3 point goals at the end.
VHS improved its season mark to 8-9, while MHS fell to 8-10.
VHS connected on 3 of 13 three-point attempts. The Tanagers sank 23 of 51 field goal attempts, while MHS was 23 of 59 from the field. MHS made 6 of 15 three-point tries.
