Biographer to speak at USD

Biographer to speak at USD Biographer Linda Simon will speak at The University of South Dakota Friday, March 19 as part of the English department's 1998-99 Speaker Series.

Professor Simon, who teaches at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, will lecture on "Biography and 'Genuine Reality': William James and Others" at 3:30 p.m. in Frankenfeld A, Coyote Student Center. Her talk is open to the public.

Her most recent book Genuine Reality: A Life of William James, is a biography of the important American philosopher and psychologist William James. Published by Harcourt Brace in 1998, the book is now being reissued by the University of Chicago Press. A review of this book in The Wall Street Journal calls it "An excellent narrative biography at once sensitively told and lucidly written." Reviewers for The New York Times hailed the book as "compelling," "new," and "innovative." Through Simon's biography, reviewers said James "comes wonderfully alive."

Simon has also published biographies of Alice B. Toklas (1977), Thorton Wilder (1979), and Margaret Beaufort (1982).
