Bruening receives college scholarship Dr. Myrvin Christopherson, president of Dana College in Blair, NE, has announced that Garrett Bruening, a senior at Vermillion High School, was selected as a winner of a $6,000 presidential scholarship as a result of a competition held at Dana in mid-February. The scholarship is renewable each year for four years.
The presidential scholarship program is designed to recognize the academic achievements of high school seniors. Bruening was one of more than 100 students who spent a day at Dana College and participated in a variety of activities which included an essay competition and personal interview with Dana students, faculty and staff members.
Students eligible to participate in the competition were required to have a grade point average of at least 3.25 out of a possible 4.0 or have a minimum ACT composite score of 25 or SAT combined score of 1130.
Bruening is the son of Larry and Dorie Bruening of Vermillion and has participated in band, Explorers Post 2000 and National Honors Society during high school.
Dana College, located in Blair, NE, is a four-year liberal arts college of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
