Kanne receives March USD employee honor Vast knowledge of his trade, a pleasant personality and a good sense of humor are valued qualities which have earned Haroldene "Rusty" Kanne of Elk Point the March Career Service Employee of the Month Award at The University of South Dakota.
Kanne, a senior building maintenance worker for USD Facilities Management since 1997, was honored during a ceremony at the Physical Plant Shop I. USD Associate Vice President Roger Kozak presented Kanne with a plaque and a check.
"I was self-employed for 20 years before coming to USD a year and a half ago," Kanne said. "Here, I enjoy the camaraderie of working with the other six full-time carpenters on projects that a lot of people get to see, such as the kitchen cabinet upgrade in the married student housing units," he said. "I enjoy meeting the public and I like working here because the university has a lot of good equipment. You can better your design if you have the proper tools."
USD Facilities Management Supervisor Leland "Chris" Swenson nominated Kanne based on his integrity, work ethic and enthusiasm. "His ability and willingness to pass on his skills to his co-workers is a valuable asset to the Facilities Management organization," Swenson said. "By doing that, he provides a wider base of experience for the whole staff, making Facilities Management operate more efficiently."
Kanne, originally of Ortonville, MN, began working at USD in 1997. He and his wife, Lynn, live in Elk Point.
