Neufeld earns varsity letter in swimming Jeremy Neufeld, a 1998 graduate of Vermillion High School, earned a varsity letter in swimming from Grinnell College this spring.
The Pioneers were 4-2 in dual meet action beating Knox, Illinois, Wesleyan, Macalester, and Loras. Grinnell's only dual-meet losses came to the University of the South and Minnesota State, both NCAA Division II institutions.
In the larger, invitational meets, Grinnell placed a consistent third, with the exception of the Iowa Small State Championships where the Pioneers finished second.
The Pioneers closed the season with a third-place finish at the Midwest Conference championships Feb. 21. Lake Forest won the title for the fifth consecutive year, scoring 594 points, while Lawrence (498) and Grinnell (391) garnered second and third place respectively.
"We swam a great meet," said Coach Erin Hurley. "Everyone scored and overall we were a faster team than last year. Our relay teams posted the best times in my four years of coaching, and we have all those swimmers returning next year."
A first-year letter winner, Neufeld placed 10th in both the 1650 freestyle and the 400 IM at the league meet. He finished 12th in the 200 IM.
Neufeld, the son on Dan Neufeld and Juliet Pattison, is an undecided major.
