South Dakota sweeps Wayne State South Dakota improved its baseball record to 6-8 with a doubleheader sweep over Wayne State March 20 in Wayne, NE. The Coyotes won the both games, 11-5 and 11-2.
The Coyotes were tied 5-5 after the first two innings. USD, however, scored in every inning after that with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning and 3 more in the top of the seventh.
USD banged out 11 hits. Jim McNaughton led the way going 3-for-4 with 3 singles and 1 RBI. Tucker McGinnis and Dustin Moore each had 2 hits, while Phil Gonyer finished with a double and he drove in 4 runs. Winning pitcher Chris Johnson went five and two-thirds innings with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts.
In the second game McNaughton again led USD going 2-for-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Kent Jansen and Adam Struck had 2 singles apiece. Winning pitcher Matt McDermott scattered 3 hits over six innings and didn't allow a hit after the second inning. Josh Wigley came on in relief in the seventh inning.
