USD loses in second region tourney game South Dakota finished its season with a 23-6 record following an 83-69 loss to Metro State in the semifinals of the North Central Region Tournament March 5 in Wayne, NE.
The Coyotes, who led 37-33 at halftime, were outscored 50-32 in the second half. USD shot 43.6 percent compared to 52.3 for Metro State.
The Roadrunners forced the Coyotes into 13 second-half turnovers and Metro State shot 60.6 percent during the final 20 minutes.
Ben Ries led USD with 26 points on 8 three-point field goals that tied a school record. Jason Barrow had 11 points. Kory Petzenhauser finished with 8 points and Joey James had 7.
USD opened the North Central Region Tournament March 4 with a 79-74 win over Mesa State. Nathan Blessen led USD with 24 points and 5 rebounds, including 18 points in the first half as the Coyotes took a 41-32 halftime lead. USD, which shot 51.0 percent, also got 13 points from Ben Ries with 11 apiece for Jeremy Kudera and Kory Petzenhauser.
