USD track team performs well at Tucson, AZ meet South Dakota turned in a number of strong performances at the Division One Willie Williams Track and Field Invitational March 17 and 18 in Tucson, AZ.
The Coyotes, who compete in the Concordia (NE) Invitational this Friday and Saturday, garnered one first place effort when Will Hardin won the long jump with a leap of 22-5 1/4. He also took fifth in the triple jump at 47-1 3/4. USD had two runner-up finishes with Jennifer Hasvold in the high jump (5-5) and Michelle Mellegaard in the triple jump (37-8 3/4). Third-place marks went to three Coyotes with Aaron Dykstra in the long jump (21-4 3/4), Ryan Bell in the javelin (178-2), Brandy Echternach in the shot put (42-9) and Tom Green in the 100 (10.61).
South Dakota, which hosts the Dan Lennon High School Track and Field Invitational March 29-30, displayed good depth. USD collected five fourth-place performances led by Josh Hofer in the 110 hurdles (14.93), Tonya Kneifl in the heptathlon (4679), Mike Nesbitt in the long jump (20-9 3/4), Tori Devericks in the 100 hurdles (14.98) and Sarah Deckert in the 100 (12.44).
