Vermillion Boxing Team makes positive impression The Vermillion Boxing Team performed impressively in front of a capacity crowd at the Sisseton Boxing Show. By winning two of three matches and bringing home a most outstanding boxer trophy, VBT members are starting to make a name for themselves.
In the first bout for the VBT, Thomas Barnes defeated Wayne Cloud Jr. of Sisseton to win his third bout in a row.
Rusty Thompson, competing in his first bout of the year, challenged Sisseton's James Hook. Hook, a lighter but more experienced fighter, came away with a close three-round decision.
To round off the evening, VBT's Terry Barnes squared off with Sisseton's Craig Giang. Although Giang was a more experienced fighter, he was unable to handle the speed and power punching of Barnes. Barnes flattened Giang once in the first round and again in the second with a sledge hammer of a left cross. Giang slowly got off of the canvas but was unable to continue.
With such an impressive showing over a more experienced fighter, Barnes was voted by the coaches and officials to be the most outstanding junior fighter of the evening and took home the most outstanding junior boxer trophy.,
The VBT thanks its supporters for their contributions and is looking forward to competing at home this Saturday at the Vermillion armory/community center.
