Young Vermillion swimmer wins Tri-State Championship Five members of the Vermillion Swim Team competed March 13 in the Tri-State Championship swim meet. Swimmers from Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota competed.
The five swimmers from Vermillion who qualified for this championship meet were: A.J. Manning, Justin Manning, Whitney Laurence, Breean Solberg and Ross Solberg. A.J. Manning, age 10, was the Tri-State High Point Champion for his age group. A.J. earned high point by capturing first place in all five of his individual events; 100 IM, 50 back, 50 free, 50 fly and 50 breast.
Awards banquet held
The Vermillion Swim Team honored individual swimmers with special awards on March 21: Girl rookie of the year, Karissa Martin; Boy rookie of the year, Tom Smith; Most improved girl, Breean Solberg, Most improved boy, Matt Williams; Most valuable girl, Nicole Vietz; Most valuable boy, A.J. Manning. A special team spirit award was presented to Dustin Tomhave.
