Choral, brass concert set April 15 The University of South Dakota Chamber Singers and USD Brass Choir, conducted by Professors Larry Torkelson and Rolf Olson, will perform in concert on Thursday evening, April 15 at 8 p.m. in Slagle Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
The Chamber Singers portion of the concert program will include the famous choruses from both Mozart's and Gabriel Faure's Requiem as well as a mass setting featuring USD student soloists Elizabeth Bennet of Sioux City, IA and Mark Loder of Omaha, NE. The singers will perform choral selections based on Shakespeare texts by the 20th century composer David Dickau, plus music from the American opera Porgy and Bess by George and Ira Gershwin.
The USD Brass Choir segment will feature Canzonin Double Echo a three-choir antiphonal brass choir selection by Giovanni Garieli. In addition, the brass choir will perform music of 20th century composers Aaron Copland, John Cheethans, Dwight Gustafson and Ranki Gyorgy. Highlights include Copland's seldom-performed Ceremonial Fanfare and Gyorgy's unique work entitled Serenade of the Seven Headed Dragon.
