Coyote tennis teams compete in NCC Tournament in St. Cloud The South Dakota mens and womens tennis teams competed in the North Central Conference championships in St. Cloud, MN April 23-26.
In the men's bracket the Coyotes were sixth with 8 points. St. Cloud State was first with 45 points, followed by Minnesota State (33), Northern Colorado (25), Augustana (21) and South Dakota State (12).
In the women's division the Coyotes finished sixth with 9 points. Northern Colorado defended its team title with 63 points. St. Cloud State was second with 39, followed by North Dakota (31), Minnesota State (27) and Augustana (9). South Dakota State was last with 5 points.
Leading the Coyote women was the No. 2 doubles team of Tara Hillier and Jen Petersen who placed fourth. In singles competition Khalilah Cook was fifth at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Petersen was sixth at No. 1 singles, while Nicole Christensen was sixth at No. 4 singles and Heather Hento was sixth at No. 5 singles.
The USD men had two fourth-place efforts. Andy Damgaard was fourth at No. 2 singles, and he teamed with Mark Schlekeway for fourth at No. 2 doubles. Ron Loecker placed fifth at No. 4 singles with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win, and Brian Vo claimed fifth at No. 5 singles with a 2-6, 6-0, 7-6 victory. Finishing sixth in singles were David Kovar at No. 1 and Steve Barnett at No. 3.
