National champ

National champ Ray O'Connor, a freshman at Vermillion High School, won the 15-16 year old 220 pound division national championship at the AAU National Folkstyle Wrestling Championships in Des Moines, IA on April 1-2. Over 2300 wrestlers competed from all over the nation. O'Connor competed against wrestlers from Arizona, Montana, Utah and Kansas, as well as other states. He pinned all of his opponents until the finals, where he defeated a Kansas wrestler 7-3. Jared Thedorff from Vermillion also competed in the tournament along with many other South Dakota wrestlers.
