Rickord, Talley garner Student of the Month awards

Rickord, Talley garner Student of the Month awards Troy Rickord and Katie Talley received the April Vermillion High School Student of the Month Awards. These honor students will receive a plaque and a $100 scholarship from First National Bank in Vermillion.

Rickord's faculty endorsement indicated that he was a "clear choice" for the award. "Not only is he a stellar student and tennis player, he is very involved with the youth in our community." Rickord's activities include National Honor Society, baseball and tennis. He tutors second-graders in chess and he was named to the 1998 Class B Baseball All-Star Team. His parents are Barb and Bill Rickord. The senior plans to attend Carleton or Gustavus Adolphus this fall.

Talley is active in band, Renaissance, French and National Honor Society. She also finds time to tutor at both the high school and middle school. Katie is outstanding in that she is a quiet leader who supports the other students, takes part in school activities, is an excellent student and is active in the community," according to her recommendation. Talley plans to attend Bard & Emory, and her parents are Kevin and Virginia Talley.

This completes the 1998-99 VHS Student of the Month program for the senior class. Seniors are recommended by school administration and faculty with the final selection being made by officials at First National Bank.

Prior Student of the Month recipients were Dean Reasoner and Molly Meyers � September; Dulce Kickland and Zeb Lang � October; Weston Olson and Kendra Korte � November; Ryan O'Connor and Mara Schwartz � December; Nick Mayer and Nina Joy � January; Megan Tolsma and Garrett Bruening � February, and Audra Vaillancourt and Mike Vaillancourt � March.

Seniors also nominated for the award were Sihaya Reid, Matt Knutson, Justin Griffith, Shorey Tuetken, Karoline Gertonson, Daisy Karel, Sarah Iles, Jay Merrigan, Nick Hovden, Rachael Hope, Laura Burcham, Carolyn O'Connor, Jacy Henderson and Pam McGuire.
