Rotary to give away bike helmets For the fifth consecutive year, the Vermillion Rotary will give away state-of-the-art bike helmets to all area second-graders on April 16 at 2 p.m. in the Austin School gym.
Over 120 helmets will be handed out.
"Students look forward to receiving these helmets," said Rotary President Bruce Smith. "It has been the approach taken by the Vermillion Rotarians to encourage young bikers to practice proper bike safety and to prevent head injuries that can result from bike accidents."
A short program will feature Cliff Deverell, a recumbent bike enthusiast, who will discuss his unique bike and some of his biking experiences. He will also emphasize the importance of biking safety. Each student will then be presented and fitted with a bike helmet.
Transportation will be provided for second-graders who need it to attend the program.
