Softball team 4-0 in Dome Invite South Dakota went 2-0 on the second day of the DakotaDome Softball Invitational March 28 in Vermillion. The Coyotes went 4-0 over the two-day tournament and improved their overall record to 20-7.
In the first game against Minnesota State, the Coyotes scored five runs in the fourth inning after 10 Coyote batters came to the plate en route to a 6-1 win. Winning pitcher Kristi Anderson walked one and struck out one while throwing an eight-hitter. Jessica Bills went 3-for-4 with two doubles a single and an RBI to pace the Coyotes.
In the second game, the Coyotes scored three runs in the sixth inning for the come from behind 3-2 victory over South Dakota State.
Brooke Kayser singled in Tiffany Davis and Kristi Anderson who both walked. Winning pitcher Kris Breuer came on in relief of Andrea Bigalk and didn't allow a hit in 1 2/3 innings.
South Dakota opened the Dome Tournament with wins over St. Cloud State (1-0) and Winona State (4-3).
In the first game against St. Cloud State, the Coyotes scored their lone and winning run in the fourth-inning when Carla Hunt drew a bases-loaded walk.
Winning pitcher Breuer went the distance with two walks and four strikeouts wild throwing a four-hitter. Losing pitcher Karissa Hoehn threw a no-hitter with eight walks and 14 strikeouts.
In the second game, the Coyotes scored the winning run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by ills that scored Hunt, who opened the frame with a single.
For the game, USD had nine hits led by Hunt, Jennifer Carpenter and Karla Miller with two singles apiece.
