Spring colloquium scheduled April 16

Spring colloquium scheduled April 16 The third Spring Colloquium in the History of Music will be held Friday, April 16, from 12:05 p.m. to 12:50 p.m. in Farber Hall in Old Main on the campus of The University of South Dakota.

Paul Cherry, professor of music, will perform Etudes sur des themes liturgiques du Comtat-Venaissen, a hidden mahzor in an unknown string quartet by Darius Milhaud.

One year before his death in 1974, Milhaud wrote the string quartet Etudes sur des themes liturgiques du Comtat-Venaissen. The quartet was unpublished at the time of his death.

The melodies outline a Mahzor, a cycle of festive prayers for the liturgical year, as observed in the Jewish community of Milhaud's native Comtat-Venaissen, a community destroyed in the Holocaust.

The Spring Colloquia are free and open to the public. For further information, contact the Department of History, 677-5218.
