VHS golfers challenged at Yankton Invitational By Jim Prosser Hillcrest Golf & Country Club in Yankton was the site of one of the largest golf tournaments for high school girls in the state April 23.
Fourteen teams, from all points of South Dakota, were entered. The Tanagers seemed to be a little intimidated by the crowd and the course, according to Coach Hogen.
The team suffered through a case of military golf which placed them among the trees, (not along them) and in the water (rather than near it). Consequently, the scores were higher than had been hoped for.
The 18 hole results were: Lynn Lewison 111, Terri Upward 114, Kelly Peterson 115, Tabitha Hubert 115 and Allison Stewart 124, with the four low scores totaling 455. The penalty strokes are still the major fault in each team members game and Hogen is encouraged that the girls never quit trying and never give up. He feels that the talent shown in practice will start emerging
in competition soon.
