Week honors child care providers As more and more parents are out in the working world, child care is a necessity and may be a burden on parents. Vermillion is very fortunate to be home to many developmentally appropriate child care centers.
The week of the Young Child, April 18-24, is a time to say thanks to the child care providers who are responsible day in and day out for Vermillion's future.
Vermillion also plays a very active part in the Missouri Valley AEYC (Association for the Education of the Young Child). Members include staff from Austin Elementary, St. Agnes school, Trinity Lutheran Preschool, Mathilda Geppert, Headstart and home child care providers. Centerville, Yankton, Tyndall, Menno and Beresford also have representatives in the Missouri Valley AEYC.
The affiliate meets once a month at various classrooms. Topics of discussion may be, but are not limited to, transitions times, music, science, gross and fine motor activities, and art activities, etc.
Many of the members will be attending the Midwest AEYC Conference in Sioux Falls on April 15-17.
