Youth gain experience at March 27 track meet By Jim Prosser The participating teams at the Dakota Valley Invitational (Huskies) track meet March 27 were mostly from the �B� school ranks so Coach Bergland took the opportunity to give some of the younger fellas a chance to get some experience in competition. With a limited squad going against varsity teams, the final results of 22 points was predictable.
In the field events, Ray O�Connor placed third in the shot put; Tim Russell was fourth in the discus; Cullin Iverson placed fifth in long jump, and fifth in triple jump and Todd Anderson was third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump. The 3200 meter relay team of Zeb Lang, Shane Manning, Darryl Neufeld and Peter Ofstehage finished sixth.
With limited numbers on the VHS girls squad, Coach McGuire made some line-up changes in several events (notably the relay teams composition and/or order), and was satisfied with the third place total of 88.5 points.
Field events results were: shot put, first, 34' 10 1/2", Sarah Mollet; high jump, second, Nichole Pederson and fourth, Meggie Donnelly; triple jump, first, (31' 1"), Laura Burcham.
Salina Dunkeson won the 100 meter hurdles (16.95) and was second in the 300 meter hurdles.
Distance runners Molly Meyers and Leslie Larson placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 800 meter run, and Natalie Tuetken and Meghan Griffith were fourth and fifth in the 1600 meter run.
The 4×100 meter relay team of Elly Kjose, Laura Burcham, Jackie Powell and Carey Engstrom placed fourth. The 4×200 meter relay team of Kelly Peterson, Mary Nelson, Nicole Pederson and Alison Obr was tied for sixth.
The 4×400 team of Meggie Donnelly, Michelle Rasmussen, Beth Pier and Katy Plate placed third. The 4×800 team of Michelle Rasmussen, Nicole Vietz, Ashley Thompson and Leslie Larson was second and the medley relay team of Elly Kjose, Laura Burcham, Jackie Powell and Beth Pier also placed second.
The VHS Booster Club Earlybird Invitational Track Meet was scheduled for Saturday, April 10, but was postponed because of rain. The rescheduled date is Tuesday, April 27, at 3:30 p.m.
