Anderson completes medical service course Navy Hospitalman Apprentice Joseph M. Anderson, son of Diane J. Irwin of Vermillion, recently graduated from Field Medical Service Technician Course at Field Medical Service School, Camp Lejeune, N.C.
During the course, Anderson learned how to operate with Marine Corps combat units as a Navy hospital corpsman or dental technician. Anderson learned the specifics of battlefield survival and personal protective measures. He also learned the basic infantry tactics and how to use weapons for self-defense.
To graduate, Anderson was required to demonstrate basic proficiency in emergency medical techniques, casualty evacuation, field sanitation and preventive medicine procedures. Marines depend on Navy corpsmen and dental technicians like Anderson to provide quality medical care when serving around the world.
The 1994 graduate of Roosevelt High School of Sioux Falls joined the Navy in April 1998.
