Brownie troop holds awards ceremony May 13 Vermillion's Brownie Girl Scout Troop #310 participated in the citywide Girl Scout awards ceremony on Thursday, May 13. The troop consists of 15 girls led by Heidi and Melissa Staller. Thirteen of the girls bridged to Juniors. All the girls received patches and awards for all their hard work.
The girls earned three try-it badges this year. They completed their career exploration badge by learning about different careers. They earned a manners badge by learning about American and Japanese manners. They also went to Pizza Hut and practiced their manners by setting the table, being polite and cleaning up after themselves. Also, they earned a safety badge. While earning the safety badge, they learned about fire safety, safe cookie selling strategies and personal safety.
Besides earning try-its, the Brownie troop also went on a variety of field trips. In October, they ventured out to E.G.'s Pumpkin Patch and Maze in Onawa. They also went to a movie, roller-skating and had a sleepover. The troop's community service projects ranged from taking their pets to the care center to visit residents to donating items to numerous community organizations.
The troop has done many activities this year. A special thanks goes out to all the girls' parents for all their help and support.
