Coyotes lose to Morningside, win over SDSU at Auggie The Coyotes, who have an overall record of 33-26, were in Sioux Falls May 1-2 for the Augustana Tournament, losing to Morningside in the first game, 4-0, before posting a 4-1 win over South Dakota State.
Kristi Anderson led USD with a two-run single, and Melanie Robotham and Erin Magel each had run-scoring singles.
South Dakota rolled past Wayne State in non-conference softball action April 30 in Vermillion by the scores of 13-0 and 8-0. Both games went five innings.
In the first game the Coyotes pounded out 12 hits paced by Tiffany Davis, who was 3-for-3 with a single and 2 home runs for 7 RBI. She had a three-run homer in the first inning and another three-run shot in the third. Erin Magel had two doubles, while Heather Casey and Kris Breuer each connected for a single and a double. Breuer was the winning pitcher allowing 3 hits along with 4 strikeouts and no walks.
In the second game winning pitcher Anderson tossed a five-inning perfect game with 8 strikeouts. The Coyotes backed Anderson with a 10-hit attack led by Jessica Bills with 2 doubles. Davis had a single and a solo home run in the fourth.
The Coyotes were in Wayne, NE April 28 and USD pounded the Wildcats by the scores of 16-3 and 14-2. In the first game the Coyotes banged out 17 hits led by Heather Casey and Magel. They were each 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single. Michelle Carpenter, Carla Hunt and Robotham had 2 singles apiece. Davis had a two-run home run. Winning pitcher Andrea Bigalk tossed a five-hitter with one strikeout and two walks.
The Coyotes followed with 12 hits in the second game. Davis had a single and a home run for three RBI. Magel had a single and a double for 3 RBI, while Kris Breuer and Jaime Kremer added two singles apiece. Breuer picked up her 15th win with 4 walks and 8 strikeouts while throwing a five-hitter.
South Dakota competes in the North Central Conference Softball Tournament May 7-8 in Sioux Falls.
