Curt Johnson joins Navy Curt T. Johnson, a senior at Vermillion High School, recently qualified and enlisted in the United States Navy for guaranteed training at the Navy's Nuclear Field school.
Johnson, the son of Terry and Carol Johnson of Vermillion, enlisted under the Delayed Entry Program. He will finish high school then report to Great Lakes, IL, for active duty in December 1999. There he will undergo basic training to prepare him for Navy life.
Upon completion of basic training, Johnson will begin two years of schooling in Charleston, SC to prepare for a job in the nuclear field. The Navy's nuclear program offers extensive training as nuclear specialists to young men and women with aptitudes in mathematics and science. The standards for selection for enlistment in this field are high. Any person applying for nuclear power training must be seriously interested in pursing the challenges this highly technical field offers.
Johnson's recruiter, Petty Officer Kyle Severson of the Sioux Falls Navy Recruiting Station, said that after successfully completing his advanced training, Johnson may go on to additional schooling or be assigned to any one of the Navy's duty stations around the world.
