Up, up and away Even though the school year is winding down to a close this week in the Vermillion School District, students at Vermillion Middle School remained busy. Even though the school year is winding down to a close this week in the Vermillion School District, students at Vermillion Middle School remained busy. Mr. Larry Monfore's eighth-grade science class learned first-hand about the workings of hot air balloons. They built their own colorful flying machines using tissue paper, and launched them from the north side of the middle school building. Some balloons only made it as far as the school's roof, but a few were pushed by winds clear to the bluffs area beyond Vermillion's downtown area.
