USD softball team goes 1-2 in NCC tournament South Dakota competed in the North Central Conference softball tournament last Friday and Saturday in Sioux Falls.
The Coyotes posted a record of 1-2 and finished the campaign with a 34-28 record.
The Coyotes opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over St. Cloud State. The Huskies outhit USD, 6-1, with South Dakota's lone hit being a solo home run by Tiffany Davis in the second inning. Winning pitcher Kris Breuer picked up her 17th win of the season with one walk and six strikeouts.
South Dakota then fell to Augustana (9-1) and was eliminated from the tournament with a 7-4 loss to Morningside. The Coyotes managed four hits against Augustana led by Jessica Bills with a home run. Posting singles were Michelle Carpenter, Kristi Anderson and Karla Miller. Anderson took the loss allowing nine hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
USD held a 4-0 lead over Morningside through five innings, before the Mustangs erupted for all seven of their runs in the top of the sixth. Morningside outhit the Coyotes, 16-9. Leading USD was Davis with a home run and two singles for three RBI's. Anderson had a single and a double, and Brooke Kayser connected for a double. Anderson took the loss and was relieved with one out in the sixth by Andrea Bigalk.
