Yankton Children’s Choir offers auditions this month

Yankton Children's Choir offers auditions this month The Yankton Children's Choir recently performed in the KIDZING Festival Concert, held at the Eppley Auditorium at Morningside College, Sioux City, IA.

Hosted by the Siouxland Youth Chorus, the festival combined the talent of eight children's choirs under the direction of Rebecca J. Rottsolk, guest conductor.

Beginning with a clinic, each choir's performance was enhanced with the input and direction of Rottsolk. In demand as a lecturer and clinician, Rottsolk fine tuned each choir, preparing them for the combined concert that evening.

Currently the artistic director of the Northwest Girlchoir in Seattle, WA, Rottsolk was the 1997 recipient of the Washington State ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) Award for Choral Leadership and served as the guest director for the 1998 ACDA North Central Children's Honor Choir.

The concert featured each choir individually. The Yankton Children's Concert Choir performed Toucans Two, a fun and voice challenging piece by David L. Brunner, and Homeward Bound, by Marta Keen. Songs were directed by Lea Ann Schramm, Joanne Hamilton and Margaret Lyons.

The eight choirs, featuring over 380 unchanged voices then combined to perform in the evening concert of KIDZING. Featured songs included Sh'ma Yisrael "Prayer and Alleluia," by Barbara Wolfman, the gospel spiritual, Go Where I Send Thee!, How Can I Keep From Singing by Rev. Lowry; and an old favorite, Bye Bye Blackbird by Ray Henderson. The eight choirs were accompanied by Ron Demers.
