Brookings Bandits take victory over Post #1 by Jim Prosser "We were 1-3 for the weekend; however we played our best baseball of the season, thus far. We continue to improve and learn the game," said Devin Schwiesow, coach of the Vermillion Post #1 baseball team.
After scoring seven runs in the first two innings, an error, walk, and three base hits resulting in four unearned runs after two outs created a situation that was difficult to overcome. Holding a 7-6 lead after two innings, Vermillion was shut out the remainder of the game, and Brookings prevailed 10-7.
Winning pitcher Doyle Price; losing pitcher Jay Merrigan.
Runs Hits Errors
Vermillion 7 6 5 Brookings 10 7 5
Offense was led by Merrigans two for two, two runs, four times on base as lead-off hitter performance.
Tom Dorsey scored twice and Troy Rickord had three RBIs and scored one. Nick Mayer went one for three, scoring once and driving in one.
Brookings comeback was highlighted by home runs from Keith Mutschler and Justin Stanky (an inside the park-er). Coach Devin feels that hopefully by regionals well be playing our best. The season record is 6 -10.
