City council postpones school officer discussion by David Lias The Vermillion City Council had planned to hold a hearing Monday night on a proposal to assign a city police officer to the Vermillion School System as a school resource officer.
The council agreed to postpone the hearing, however, until its July 6 meeting.
City Manager Jeff Pederson said it has been discovered that the city has more time to apply for a federal grant that would pay for a majority of a school resource officers salary than originally was believed.
He asked the council to continue the public hearing until July 6 so city officials can take advantage of that extra time for further preparation.
The city is considering a federal COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grant application.
