Dakota Breeze wins Kansas Emerald Cup Vermillions club soccer team, Dakota Breeze Extreme, won the championship in the girls U14 Division at the Emerald Cup soccer tournament June 5-6 in Kansas City. Co-sponsored by the Kansas City Wizards, the tournament brought together dozens of Division I and Division II teams ages U10-U18 from the Kansas and Missouri areas. One team, however, from South Dakota may have spoiled the day for some local competitors. Extreme was paired with teams from Overland Park, Olathe, and Lawrence, KS as well as Kansas City, MO.
In bracket play Extreme downed Lawrence's Kaw Valley Force 4-2, Overland Park Avellino 2-0 (Kansas' State Cup Winner), and Kansas City Odyssey 4-1. The last game with Olathe's Prodigy Flames was a 2-2 draw. There was no final round with the top point team in world cup scoring declared champion. Extreme finished with 10 tournament points. The second place team had six. Scoring goals for Extreme was forward Kristen Kitto six, midfielders Brooke Niles two, Carly Bernard two, Megan Griffith one and Kaylie Heesch one.
The Dakota Breeze Soccer Club will have teams competing in the upcoming Coke Classic and Pepsi Challenge in Sioux Falls, the Rushmore Cup in Rapid City, the Dakota Cup in Vermillion and the Summer Soccer Marathon in Sioux City.
