Plans underway for Dakota Days The final Dakota Days celebration of the 20th century will be packed full of activity Oct. 4-9 at The University of South Dakota.
This year's Dakota Days Committee, led by co-chairs Jacquelyn Dice of Mitchell and April Ross of Sioux Falls, will organize the event around the theme "Remembering the Past ? Lighting the Future."

aman of Aberdeen; dignitaries chair Emily Kom of Canistota; special events co-chair Margie Rostyne of Carthage; special events co-chair Julie Reisch of Howard; parade co-chair Julie Peschong of Mitchell; band chair Steve Hosman of Pierre; promotions chair Rebecca Maiwald, parade co-chair Teri Naber, Capers production co-chair, Patricia Owens, float chair Jeff Russell, Capers program Jamie Sage, publicity chair Sara Schlump of Sioux Falls; special events co-chair Jesse Christopherson of Vermillion; Capers production co-chair Kellyna Larson of Woonsocket; and coronation chair Jill Sternquist of Yankton.
Jill Drake, the Dakota Days Committee advisor, said that Dakota Days helps to tie history with USD tradition. "It's a great time for new students to realize some of the traditions here at USD," Drake said.
The Dakota Days festivities will begin on October 4. Activities will include events such as a free dance with a live band and Jello Wrestling, which is being sponsored by the HELP Program. Other activities will include the Coyote Capers' coronation of Mr. and Miss Dakota on Friday. The USD Alumni Association will sponsor an alumni banquet on Friday.
The festivities will conclude with the D-Days parade Saturday morning at 10 a.m. in downtown Vermillion. The homecoming football game will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the DakotaDome when the Coyotes host St. Cloud State.
