Reception will honor Perrys Rev. Stephen and Marilyn Perry will be honored at a farewell reception Sunday, June 13, at the First United Methodist Church, 16 N. Dakota Street. The reception will be held in the church's Fellowship area from 2-4 p.m. The congregation of the church cordially invites the Vermillion community to join in greeting the Perrys at this occasion.
Rev. Perry has been pastor of the Vermillion church for eight years. While in Vermillion, he has been president of the Vermillion Ministerial Association, has taught religion classes at The University of South Dakota and served on the board of the United Ministry-USD. In addition he serves as chair of the Board of Ordained Ministry of the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church.
Under Rev. Perry's guidance, the local church is finalizing plans for the Student Christian Community which will begin housing some USD students in August. This student community will be housed in the remodeled south part of the church building.
Marilyn Perry is chief financial officer for the Sioux Valley Vermillion Campus. She has been active in the Chancel Choir of the church, has been a cello soloist for the church, and has served as treasurer for the local unit of the United Methodist Women.
Stephen and Marilyn are moving to 417 N. Pine from the parsonage at 933 Eastgate. His last Sunday to serve as pastor is June 13. The Perrys will be living in Vermillion for another year.
