USD turns in trio of fourth-place finishes South Dakota turned in a trio of fourth-place finishes at the NCAA Division II track and field championships May 27-29 in Emporia, KS.
In the discus, Brandy Echternach was fourth with a throw of 154-10, while Tina Fenske finished fourth in the 3,000 with a time of 9:49.17. She was also sixth in the 5,000 (17:29.26). Fenske's 3,000 time bettered her USD school record of 9:55.91 set last year.
In addition, Molly Wedel was fourth in the 5,000 with a school record time of 17:26.38. She also placed sixth in the 3,000 in 9:56.91.
In two other finals, Tonya Kneifl took fifth in the high jump at 5-4 1/2. She was also ninth in the heptathlon with 4,741 points.
The women's 4×100 relay team of Tori Devericks, Stephanie Knight, Michelle Munsen and Sara Deckert ended up fifth in 46.76.
USD's other fifth-place effort was Chad Feeldy in the 1,500 (3:53.68) and teammate Mike Gade was 12th (4:07.63). In preliminaries of the 800 Krista Trei finished ninth in 2:13.42.
In the 100 Munsen was 10th (12.04) and Deckert finished 13th (12.30). In the 400, Knight came in 15th in 57.08. In pole vault action for the Coyotes, Stacie Janish went 10-2 for 13th, while the women's 4×400 relay came in ninth in 3:48.09.
South Dakota's women placed seventh in the team standings with 29 points and the USD men were 37th with four points. Abilene Christian swept the men's (93) and women's (145) team titles.
