Vermillion Blue Angels win Domino's Classic The Domino's Classic Soccer Tournament was held May 22-23 in Sioux Falls.
The Blue Angels, in their first game against the Sioux Falls Meteors, broke out with a 2-0 lead. Goals were scored by Alicia Brown and Annie Roche. The Meteors had a strong finish and tied the game 2-2.
The Blue Angels won their second game against the Sioux Falls Patriots 10-0. This was the best game all year for the Blue Angels.
The third game was against Watertown and was another high scoring game of 7-0.
This set the pace for the championship game against the Vermillion Canaries. The Blue Angels defeated the Canaries 3-0.
Dominating players of the midfield were Annie Roche, Ariel Hofman and Anna Isaacson. They controlled the tempo of every game.
Forwards Alicia Brown and Lauryn Hower and Chandra Heimstra and Kristin Welk were presented many scoring opportunities succeeding on many attempts which led to the Blue Angels outscoring their opponents 22-2 during the tournament.
Another major factor of the Blue Angels' success was due to the player on the defensive end of the field led by defenders Kayla McInerney, Ariel Begley, Kelsie Pace and Megan Hays who rotated in and out. Many key stops were made by the defenders and when the ball was cleared out it led to multiple fast break opportunities.
In the net for the Blue Angels was Kaili Johnson, she gave up only 2 goals over the game tourney, which is remarkable, and made 12 saves.
