Vermillion Post #1 wins big over Tea in tourney By Jim Prosser Tim Broderson rained on Tea's party with a sparkling four hit, two run performance in the opening game of Vermillion Legion Post #1's baseball tournament.

Backed up by an astonishing 22 runs, the final 4 1/2 inning game was determined by an astonishing 22 runs, featuring a seven run third inning. Tim struck out four and walked three, backed up by sterling defense which committed one error.

Jason Madsen led the offense by walking twice, blasting two home runs and scoring three times. James Ofstehage was on base four times, scoring three runs and Todd Severson went three for four, scored three runs and had two RBIs.

Jay Merrigan was two for three, scored twice, and had one RBI. Dustin Larson went two for two driving in three runs.

There were intermittent showers during the game but the field was in excellent shape. A whole bunch of parents (fans) helped rake, drag and mark the field.

Losing pitcher: Kurtis Sweeter.

The season record now stands at 7-10.

The second tournament game found Beresford Post #72 prevailing over Elk Point Post #134 by a 15-2 score in another 10 run rule, five inning game.

Jon Sorenson was the winning pitcher allowing one run on two hits. Losing pitcher was Eric Jacobs who gave up 15 hits and six walks.

Jake Erickson led the offense for Beresford going three for four and scoring three runs and Carl Miller went three for four with two runs scored.
