4-H Special Foods Contest held Twelve local members participated in the Clay County 4-H Special Foods Contest held Friday, June 25 at the Vermillion Middle School. Each participant had 1 1/2 hours to prepare a dish of their choice, coordinate a table setting and meal menu. In addition, participants were tested on their knowledge of nutrition.
4-H members receiving purple in the Junior Division were: Ellen Kennedy � Country Morning Muffins, Laura Aga � Pizza Muffins, Emily Miller � Banana Pancakes, Theresa Ring � Barbecued Meatballs and Kelsey Peterson � French Toast Croissant.
Senior Division purple ribbon winners were: Tabitha Hubert � Pork Schnitzel, Dean Miler � Caribbean Chicken Saute with Island Salsa, and Stacy Miskimins � Monterey Chicken. Blue ribbon winners were: Jennifer Lindblom � Cheese Steak Pizza and John Lindblom � Spicy Noodle and Pork.
Blue Ribbons were awarded to Kelly Miskimins and Alex Peterson in the Beginner Division making Strawberry/Watermelon Slush and Berries with Orange Cream respectively.
Purple ribbon winners are now eligible to advance to state competition at the 1999 South Dakota State Fair in Huron August 31 through September 1.
Dawn Stoner of Yankton and Edna Fillingsness of Beresford served as judges for this Youth in Action event.
