Expedition to be remembered here

Expedition to be remembered here Vermillion holds a unique place in history with its proximity to Spirit Mound, visited on Aug. 25, 1804 by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark during their exploration of the Louisiana Purchase.

As the 200th anniversary of the Lewis and Clark expedition draws near, the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee is planning several annual events to raise local awareness of the explorers and their 25-month trip especially as it relates to Spirit Mound.

Each event, beginning this year, will take place on Aug. 25 and will feature a variety of activities, from re-enactments to hands-on projects for people of all ages. Anyone who has an interest in Lewis and Clark is encouraged to attend the next planning meeting on Aug. 3 at 8 a.m. in the Chamber office.
