Hub City-Dalesburg reunion held June 26 The eighth annual meeting of the Hub City-Dalesburg reunion was held at Hub City in the Dalesburg Lutheran Church dining room on June 26 with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. with more than 90 persons attending.
Residents attending, who formerly lived in the community, were from Centerville, Beresford, Vermillion, Alcester, Minnesota, Texas, Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
Ron Johnson, president of the Dalesburg-Hub City Historical Society, presided at the business meeting following the dinner with the present officers, Ron Johnson, president; Mrs. Gary (Connie Inberg) Richards, vice president and Mrs. Milton (Margaret Alne) Boline, secretary-treasurer.
The society has a board of directors and holds its annual meeting and potluck supper on the Saturday evening of the midsommar weekend. Donations continue to be accepted for maintenance of the monuments erected in 1995 in both Dalesburg and Hub City. The society also has made reprints of the Swede Book written by August Peterson (1869-1950) in 1947 with a history of the Swedes who came and settled in Clay County, South Dakota from Sweden and their biographies.
The original capsule of the Hub City and its beginning was buried in 1935 by the Inberg Family, children of William (Bill) and Pearl Inberg. Dalesburg is located one and a half miles north and the Dalesburg Lutheran Church is across the road from the former Hub City garage. Once thriving business in both villages are now only memories. Stone pillars remain in Hub City where the garage once stood and historical monuments were placed there and in Dalesburg.
Interesting to those attending was the showing of a picture which Mrs. Gary (Connie Inberg) Richards of Beresford found in an antique mall outside of Omaha recently. She framed the large picture which was called "Business Men of South Dakota." The picture had these inscriptions: John M. Carlson, well drilling; Andrew Lyckholm, General Mdse; C. Withers, General Blacksmithing Horse Shoeing Wood working; and Eklund and Inberg, Accessories and Auto Repairing.
Inberg family attending the reunion were Rodney and Audrey and son, Rod Jr., of Beresford, Darlowe and Delda Inberg, San Antonio, TX, Elliot and Nancy Inberg and granddaughter, Meredith Sheburne, Montgomery, TX and Gary and Connie (Inberg) Richards and son Brandon, Beresford.
