Huron, Post #1 split marathon doubleheader

Huron, Post #1 split marathon doubleheader With a total of 43 runs scored in a doubleheader match with Huron Post #1 gained split, losing 13-16 and winning 13-1 on Friday, June 25 at Prentis Park.

In the first game, Huron came up with a six-run rally in the sixth inning to overtake Vermillion with a 16-run victory.

Nick Mayer was three for four and scored four runs and three RBIs and Jay Merrigan scored three and, as the leadoff man, was on base four times. Jason Madsen scored twice, went three for four and drove in one run.

In the second game, Huron's pitcher had a tough time finding the plate, surrendering 11 walks and only four hits as Tim Broderson shut them down on a three-hitter and one run.

Post #1 took full advantage of the wildness, scoring 13 runs in the 4 1/2 inning 10-run rule win.

Losing pitcher: Mike Wendelgass.

Every player on the team scored a run (in the first inning). Jay Merrigan was one for two and scored three times, while Stephen Varns scored twice, as did Troy Rickord.

The total time for the two games was more than five hours, so everyone enjoyed a full night of Legion baseball!
