Post #1 overtakes Irene Trailing 8-1 after two innings, "victory was nice to see; however we need to come ready to play," said Vermillion Post #1 Coach Devin Schwiesow regarding the come-from-behind victory at Irene on June 22.
Jay Merrigan stepped up and did a great job on the mound for the final four innings. Merrigan came in to pitch with two men on and no outs in the fourth inning, proceeding to strike out the side. He duplicated the feat in innings five and seven, but had only two strikeouts in the sixth for an impressive 11 strikeouts against 13 batters (he walked one and had one ground out).
Irene had scored four runs in each of the first two innings aided by four Vermillion errors, and five hits. (G. Sees had a two-run homer). G. Eggers struck out nine in seven innings.

James Offstehage had two RBIs, Troy Rickord scored twice and drove in two (including a solo home run), and Nick Mayer was two for five scoring once. Aaron Baedke and Jason Madsen each scored twice. Following the game the Post #1 record was 10-10.
