Price reporting to be discussed Area livestock producers, legislators, livestock marketing organizations and others are invited to an open discussion on mandatory price reporting issues.
The meeting is sponsored by the Southeast South Dakota Cattlemen's Association. It will be held 7 p.m. on Monday, July 19 at Stockman's Livestock Sales in Yankton.
On July 1, mandatory price reporting legislation (SB 95) went into effect. As a result, major meat packers have changed to a grade and yield basis of pricing livestock. While many producers say they are in favor of mandatory price reporting, the question is, what form should it take? The system as it has been developed so far may be favorable for some in the livestock industry, but others have found it difficult to accept. That is where the struggle lies right now. Public input is invited at the meeting.
