Vermillion gains split with Yankton Post #12 According to Vermillion's Post #1 Coach Devin Schwiesow, "consistency of play in every game can better display our potential (and improve our record)."

An indication of this is the result of the June 24 double header split with Yankton (0-12) and (8-2)!

In the first game, Vermillion was held to two hits and two walks while giving up 11 hits and committing eight errors. Yankton's offense was led by Nick Miller with three for four hits and three runs (including a home run) and Tom Gause with two for three hits and three runs.

Winning pitcher: Nate Bensen.

Losing pitcher: Tom Dorsey.

In the second game, Post #1 scored three runs as Yankton surrendered four walks and committed four errors in the first inning and three runs in the fourth on three hits followed by two runs in the sixth, to overwhelm Post #12 (8-2).

Eric Holoch gave up two runs, five hits and six base on balls in a five inning stint. He was relieved by Jay Merrigan in the sixth with two runners on and no outs. Merrigan retired the side with two strikeouts and an assist (1-3).

Winning pitcher: Holoch.

Losing pitcher: Nelson.

Jason Madsen went two for three, scoring twice and driving in one. Merrigan was one for one but was on base four times and scored two runs. He also is credited with a save. Vermillion's season record following the Yankton double-header is 11-11.
