Vermillion team defeats Alliance in tournament It took three pitchers for Post #1 to overcome a five-run rally in the fifth inning by Alliance, NE in the opening game of the Rapid City Pepsi Tournament.
Leading 5-2 in the fourth inning, aided by some sloppy play (five errors and three walks), combined with a three-base hit by Tim Broderson and singles by Nick Mayer and Tom Dorcey.
Alliance knocked Jay Merrigan (starter) "out of the box" when five of seven batters reached first base on walks and Keith Dean hit a home run off Eric Holoch (reliever #1) to take the lead (7-5).
Vermillion scored a run in the sixth courtesy of two walks and an RBI single by Merrigan who went one for three and scored a run in the game.
Holoch held the opponents scoreless in the sixth and Broderson (reliever #2) shut them out in the seventh striking out the side and setting up the team for a three-hit two- run barrage to end the game (8-7) and be the winning pitcher.

Aaron Baedke scored twice as did Dorcey, batting .500 and Jason Madsen. Season record became 16-18 after the first game of the tourney.
