Area students among summer grads Approximately 300 candidates for degrees participated in The University of South Dakota'a 70th summer commencement exercise July 29.
USD Professor Emeritus Corinne Milburn delivered the commencement address titled, "Living on the Cusp of the Millennium." Her speech discussed the importance of flexibility during the changing of the century, living in a changing world, and commencement as a new beginning.
President James W. Abbott and David Gienapp, a member of the South Dakota Board of Regents from Madison, conferred degrees. USD Professor and Dean Emeritus Chuck Kaufman delivered the alumni message.
Honorary marshals included Professor Emeriti Allen Johnson and Corinne Milburn. Marshals were USD Professors Bruce Smith, Diane Hoadley and Bob Wood.
