City hires architect for new fire station by David Lias The Vermillion City Council has agreed to hire RML Architects of Sioux City, IA to design a new fire/ambulance building for the city.

The new building, once constructed, would replace the current city fire hall, which is believed to have been built in 1901 or 1902.

In June, the citys fire/ambulance building committee sent out inquiries to 14 architectural firms in Sioux Falls, Sioux City and Yankton for designing and engineering the proposed $1.15 million new fire/ambulance facility which will be located at the intersection of Duke and Dakota streets.

The city received responses from seven firms showing an interest in the project. The committee reviewed the requests for qualifications for designing and engineering the project submitted by each firm, and narrowed the number of firms to be considered to four.

Following an interview process of the four firms named as finalists, the building committee recommended the hiring of RML to design and engineer the building for a fee not to exceed $78,000.
