Rasmussen named to region soccer team Michelle Rasmussen of Vermillion has been selected to the United States Youth Soccer Association Region II Girls Olympic Development Program Pool Team in her age group. She was selected by regional and national coaches at the regional camp held in DeKalb, IL. At this camp, the top 18 players from each of our 14 midwestern states competed for selection to the pool team. Only 30 players were selected in each age group.
Michelle is the daughter of Randy and Ann Rasmussen. She is a freshman student at Vermillion High School. She is a member of the Dakota Gold Legend Club of Sioux Falls and also plays for the Vermillion High School team.
According to Bonnie Skover, regional administrator for the Olympic Development Program, "being selected to the regional pool is a major accomplishment. Michelle will be observed now and in the future for possible selection to a United States National Team. Some of these players have gone to win Olympic Gold Medals in 1996 and are represented in the Women's World Cup Team."
Michelle will train with the top 64 players from around the country at the ARCO Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA, Aug 12-18. The trip is sponsored by the United States Soccer Federation and NIKE.
