Softball team plays in tournament The Clay-Union Electric Girls Fastpitch team concluded their 1999 season with a trip to the Northern Regional 18 and under fastpitch tournament in St. Paul, MN the weekend of July 24-25.
The first opponent was the Elk River Blue Devils. Clay-Union scored two runs in the top of the first inning and held a 2-1 lead going into the bottom of the third. Elk River scored seven runs in the third inning and two in the fourth due to numerous defensive errors. Final score of the game was Elk River 12 and Clay-Union 2.
The girls' second game pitted Clay-Union against a very good Minnesota Diamonds team from the Twin City area. The Clay-Union team never got the bats going in this game as the girls could muster only two hits and lost 14-0 in five innings. The girls played in adverse weather conditions in this game as the temperature was around 100 degrees that afternoon.
Coaches Prasek and Tolsma were disappointed at the outcome of the two games, but proud of the girls' achievements during the past season. The season record was 19 wins and 11 loses.
