Student leaders attend leadership conference Several South Dakota students discussed leadership recently at the first annual Mount Rushmore Institute, sponsored by The W.O. Farber Center at The University of South Dakota.
Titled "The Skills of Leadership," the Institute was held on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
Institute participants included Lief Nygaard and Drake Olson of Vermillion.
Throughout the weeklong event, a variety of leadership skills were discussed including parliamentary procedure, lobbying, media relations, moderating democratic forums, and organization and planning, according to USD Professor Bill Richardson, chair of the Farber Center.
During the Institute, featured speakers included USD School of Law Dean Barry Vickrey, David Gross of the North Dakota Consensus Council, attorney Todd Epp, Dr. J. Michael Martinez, Eldon Nygaard of the Farber Center, and former South Dakota Speaker of the House of Representatives Gene Lebrun.
