Tanagers open tennis season with victory by Jim Prosser Coach Barb Rickord had very positive thoughts regarding the first match performance of her 1999 Vermillion High School girls tennis team as they defeated Yankton High School Aug. 21 by a close 5-4 score.
"The girls played very well for the first match of the season after only one week of practice, Rickord said. "We have not beat Yankton this early in the season before."

For the experience of competition, ninth graders Tori Collins and Catherine Odson and eighth grader Jessica Leffers played exibition matches, losing 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, respectively.
"We are missing the talent and experience of Tracey Walworth who is out with an injury," said Coach Rickord, who is hopeful that she will be ready to play at the next match (Sept. 7) at home vs. Madison.
